Every year the city of Amsterdam is confronted with new and often unforeseeable demands when is comes to housing new schools or existing schools that experiencing sudden growth or reduction in students. In this light the competition for the new but temporary school of the Amsterdam International Community School (AICS) is about an innovative solution housing a school in one location and after 6 years moving the schoolas a whole or in parts to another location in the city. The competition was won under the lead of De Meeuw, specialist in modular building system.
Burton Hamfelt Urban Architects' design for block 6a for the Sluisbuurt in Amsterdam will be on view in the Architectuurcentrum Amsterdam (ARCAM) as part of the ‘Sluisbuurt Studies’ exhibition. The exhibition large scale models of two complimentary visions on the Sluisbuurt presented by both the municipality and one by the Amsterdam Academy of Architecture. The design of 6a is explores designing 'the heart' of the Sluisbuurt on the InHolland plot encompassing ca. 30.000 m2 of mixed use educational facilities.
The exposition will be on show until the 6th of January 2019 at ARCAM Architectuurcentrum Amsterdam!

We are proud to announce that the new MBO school for ROC of Flevoland in Almere Poort located at Olympia Quarter East in Almere Poort has just been completed. The new building of 6.750 m2 includes educational facilities, 65 parking places and outdoor spaces and invites public functions and usage where visitors are welcome to engage between students, residents and employees to be part of this campus community.
Together with local businesses, owners and property developers, the Paasheuvelweg in Amstel 3 Amsterdam is being transformed from a boring office park into a lively new neighbourhood where working, living and creativity come together. BHUA has been asked by property owner Rosebroom BV to design a mixed use tower for living and office space with a lively plinth allowing for small live-work business and amenities.
Volksvlijt was the name of a major public exhibition about Amsterdams future economy. The exhibition was on show in the Amsterdam Public Library at the Osterdok in the spring and summer of 2016. BurtonHamfelt Urban Architectures contribution to this exhibition and book was called, ModelMe.Floriade a project that investigatd how inhabitants can join forces with students to design their own city using interactive 3d tools. An open competition was created with students using the software Lego digital designer to build their ideal campus on the Floriade 2022 terrein in Almere.
BurtonHamfelt Urban Architecture submits urban vision to be presented to the city of Ouderkerk aan de Amstel for the transformation of the Entrada terrein into a dense and lively live/work environment. After many months of studies, consultations, workshops and presentations, we are proud to annouce the submission of the urban vision for Entrada once a obsolete office park strategically located along the metro line 54 in Amsterdam. The area is currently being planned for urban intensifcation and housing approximately 1000 new dwellings, 20.000 m2 of offices and 700 parking places. Construction is expected to start in 2019.
As they launched Abu Dhabi's newest startup accelerator, Kyptolabs has just awarded the Netherlands-based startup with their massive kick-off award. ModelMe3D, a modelling platform that allows users to click on buildings, surfaces and markers to learn more about their surroundings, has just nabbed the first prize at the inaugural Krypto Startup Contest in Abu Dhabi, taking home a $250,000 package of funding and mentoring support to incubate the groundbreaking startup. First full on design try out with architects to test our the urban design guidelines for high rise living of the Sluisbuurt a new high density mixed/use project in Amsterdam was a great success. In no time the invited archtecture teams completed fantastic projects for the Sluisbuurt 5.500 dwellings plus 100.000 m2 of mixed program. The 1:500 model will be exhibited in the coming months at the Zuiderkerk in Amsterdam.
World Startup Factory Impact Accelerator 2017 has accepted ModelMe3D along with other startups are the ideal match for Impact Accelerator 2017 program located in The Hague. Various partners and investors have given the go-ahead to participate in this innovative program. An initial pre-seed investment of Euro 15K forms the basis for further mentorship and ModelMe3D’s business development strategy.
Zoetermeer is a modern planned city that is best known as a liveable and green residential city but at the same time the necessity for urban renewal is great. Zoetermeer wants to become more attractive as a lively residential and entrepreneurial city for pioneers and innovators with the aim of strengthening its position within the metropolitan area of otterdam The Hague. The entrance area that is experienced as a transition area from the A12 to the city center should become more representative of the quality of living and pioneering spirit one is looking for. In addition, despite the current monofunctional layout, the adjacent easily accessible station area has an excellent opportunity to grow with new forms of living and working.
The following phase of the MBO Campus Upgrade is complete. The new entrance for the Skills Labs in Almere Buiten has opened its doors to the public and the students. The finalization of the renovations to Building B followed up shortly there after. Design work now is resuming for the complete renovation and new entrance of Building C with an expected completion planned for mid 2018.
