THE ANTHONY, our proposal for the development of Kavel 1C, is a concept elaborated down to the finest detail for the task that The Hague has set itself: densification, sustainability and greening. The extraordinary and robust residential and working area of the Binckhorst will be given an architecturally equally special, powerful and iconic building with THE ANTHONY. Numerous proven, innovative elements have been applied that provide an answer to questions that relate to themes such as urban identity, liveliness, mixed programme, energy, waste, water, ecology, climate adaptation and mobility. These elements have been made visible and showcased as much as possible. We are adding two strong residential environments to the Trekvlietzone: a fairly compact and highly urban block below and a more open, nature-inclusive tower above. Both with their own, subtle industrial character.

Our design vision is based on the following five core themes. 1. Urbanity, Plot 1C marks the transition in scale from highly urban (Binckhorstlaan) to low-urban (Waterfrontpark along Trekvliet). THE ANTHONY is a central player in the Trekvliet zone and is located in the middle of the traffic flows in the area.

The articulation of the volume responds to this. 2, Ensemble, our design does not stand alone, but is one of three buildings, which together form one mass and one urban figure. As the southern end building, the block emphasizes this ensemble and establishes relationships with its urban environment, such as with the public space and the Fokker Terminal. 3. The building as producer. As a carrier of the cultural-historical history of the Binckhorst, our design incorporates the industrial logic of production and translates it into a post-industrial variant with innovation and creativity as characteristics. It is a building that produces an attractive, sustainable and healthy living environment. 4 Create industrial nature.

Our design gives shape to a progressive living, working and transport model that introduces two living environments with a mix of typologies: an urban block and a nature-inclusive tower. Both atmospheres fit well with the Binckhorst. 5. Low maintenance and demountable construction. Our constructive vision is to make the building as sustainable and demountable as possible, using circular building materials.
